CHICAGO Helen Frances Shorter died Saturday, June 11, 2011, at Baptist Hospital in Southaven. She was 56.
Ms. Shorter was a retired school teacher and a member of Mars Hill Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her father, Redus L. Earl Shorter Sr.; four sisters, Dorothy M. Lofton, Martha A. Shorter, Mary Louise Shorter and Charlotte Mecene; and one grandchild, Shakira Shorter.
Survivors include her mother, Charlotte Butler of Port Gibson; two sons, Orlandus Shorter and Dehaven Shorter, both of Chicago; five brothers, Redus L. Shorter Jr. of Hill Side, N.J., Richard Shorter of Buffalo, N.Y., Dexter Shorter of Port Gibson, Eddie L. Shorter of Jackson and Micheal Shorter of Sara, Miss.; two sisters, Mary E. Eggeston of Oak Park, Ill., and Annie L. Brown of Columbia, S.C.; five grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Rollins Funeral Home in Port Gibson with the Rev. Hugh Johnson officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be tonight from 4 until 7 at the funeral home.
